Nicola Owen

About Me

My daughter is a proud student in Te Hiaroa at Maangere Bridge School and as her parents we support her learning as much as we can, including attending Māori classes at Ngaa Whare Waatea Marae. I am originally from Manchester and moved to Aotearoa in 2004. Most of my career has been involved in disability advocacy and I have governance experience including: the Coalition of Community Law Centres; Auckland Playcentres Association and The Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind.

About Me

I am māmā of four children, an 11 year old and five year old triplets who attend MBS, and proudly of Niuean and Samoan heritage.
A former journalist, I've more than 17 years of experience working in newsrooms such as Tagata Pasifika, TV3, TVNZ and Stuff, and currently work as the GM of Content at Pacific Media Network.
In 2016, my hubby and I founded LifeStone, a memorial business that aims to wrap a korowai of culture and alofa around people in grief while restoring the well-being of the planet through sustainable NZ-made headstones.

About Me

Kia ora koutou, ko Whaea Aileen ahau.
I am privileged to be teaching here at Mangere Bridge School and to be part of such a caring and vibrant community. I enjoy getting to know our tamariki and creating fun, hands-on learning experiences where they feel confident to try new things and proud of their achievements.
Building strong relationships with students and their whānau is really important to me, and I enjoy celebrating each child’s unique strengths and talents. Outside of school, I enjoy gardening, travelling, and learning about other cultures, as well as spending time with my whānau.
