Announcement : 

Kia ora MBS Parents/Caregivers and Whaanau We are writing to provide an important update regarding the MOSA Inter-School Cross Country Zones and Athletics Zones.  Regrettably, we must inform you that both these events will not be going ahead this year and are cancelled due to factors beyond our control.  We acknowledge that the dates were listed on our school calendar however the leadership team have only been officially notified of this outcome at the end of last week following the MOSA meeting. We sincerely apologise for the late notice and for any frustration or disappointment this news may cause. We understand how much this event means to our tamariki, particularly those who trained diligently and placed in our school cross country finals. It is deeply disappointing that our qualifiers will not have the opportunity to represent Maangere Bridge School at the zone level this year. Please be assured we will still be formally recognising and celebrating all students who participated and placed in our school cross country and Athletics finals. Their hard work, determination, and achievements deserve to be honored. Literacy and Numeracy

We are committed to ensuring all students build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy so they can become confident and capable readers, writers, collaborative problem-solvers in Mathematics and enjoy learning.

At MBS we are implementing Te Mataiaho The Refreshed New Zealand Curriculum and provide a structured and evidence-based approach in Literacy and Numeracy using ‘Maths No Problem’ and the ‘Better Start Literacy Approach’ as well as other supporting resources and tools. 

What does this look like in Literacy?

  • Explicit teaching of phonics and phonological awareness

  • Clear progressions of literacy skills in all year levels

  • Strategies to support reading, writing and maths

  • Focus on building vocabulary and oral language skills

  • Consistent and regular assessment to support individual learning needs 

What does this look like in Numeracy”

  • Clear learning intentions planned according to NZ Curriculum statements

  • Rich conversations to share and explain mathematical strategies 

  • Engaged experiences and activities to build strong foundations for each year level

  • Shared professional learning and groups

We provide a well-balanced curriculum covering The New Zealand curriculum in eight learning areas (English, The Arts, Health and Physical Education, Learning Languages, Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Sciences and Technology).
