Our Health Programmes

At Maangere Bridge School (MBS), health education is central to our school vision ‘Aroha, Ako, Angitu’—’Together, We care, We learn, We Succeed!’. Our health programmes are designed to develop confident, resilient, and grounded students who are connected to their well-being and capable of making health-enhancing decisions.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

At Maangere Bridge School, we are proud to be an inclusive school. We actively cater to the diversity of our students, accepting and valuing each child for their unique qualities and individual strengths as a core part of our inclusive culture.

In alignment with our school values of Kotahitanga, Kaitiakitanga, Manaakitanga, and Rangatiratanga, we aim to enhance the hauora of all students, staff, and whaanau.

Seven Key Learning Areas

Our curriculum is built around seven essential areas that support the holistic development of the child:

  • Mental Health: Emphasising self-understanding, belonging, and resilience grounded in culture and history.
  • Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE): Supporting aakonga to develop healthy, respectful relationships and positive personal identities.
  • Food and Nutrition: Empowering students to make informed decisions about nutrition for their own well-being.
  • Body Care and Physical Safety: Teaching students to recognise hazards and adopt safe practices.
  • Physical Activity: Encouraging students to enjoy movement and develop positive attitudes toward regular fitness.
  • Sports Studies: Identifying how sporting experiences influence the development of social and physical skills.
  • Outdoor Education: Extending learning beyond the classroom into the natural environment.

Specific Health Programmes at MBS

To bring these learning areas to life, MBS delivers several high-quality, specialised programmes throughout the year:

Community Collaboration & Rights

In accordance with the Education and Training Act 2020, our Board of Trustees consults with the community every two years to adopt a “Health Curriculum Delivery Statement”. This ensures our teaching remains relevant to the needs and values of our whaanau.

We believe in keeping our whaanau fully informed. Parents and caregivers have the legal right to request that their child be excluded from specific parts of the Sexuality Education component by providing a formal written request to the Principal.
