Our Core Curriculum Areas

We are committed to ensuring all students build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy so they can become confident and capable readers, writers, collaborative problem-solvers in Mathematics and enjoy learning.

At MBS we are implementing Te Mataiaho The Refreshed New Zealand Curriculum and provide a structured and evidence-based approach in Literacy and Numeracy using ‘Maths No Problem’ and the ‘Better Start Literacy Approach’ as well as other supporting resources and tools. 

What does this look like in Literacy?

• Explicit teaching of phonics and phonological awareness

• Clear progressions of literacy skills in all year levels

• Strategies to support reading, writing and maths

• Focus on building vocabulary and oral language skills

• Consistent and regular assessment to support individual learning needs

• Clear learning intentions planned according to NZ Curriculum statements
