We would like to acknowledge and thank Four Winds Foundation for their incredible financial support and approved grant helping towards the transport, accommodation and activity costs for our Year 6 Camp held this year at CYC Camp Waipa in Ngāruawāhia. We appreciate your investment towards Education Outside the Classroom and Physical Education providing opportunities for our Year 6 students to participate in outdoor activities, develop confidence and independence, build relationships and strengthen capabilities including participation, problem-solving and self-management. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the active and relaxing experiences while creating lasting memories in their final year at Maangere Bridge School.

Wednesday 18th November
3 – 5 pm
|
On behalf of our Swimming Pool Committee, MBS School Board and staff we are thrilled to invite all of our students, parents/caregivers, whaanau and community to the official Swimming Pool Celebration Launch!
Our school swimming pool has been a cherished part of our kura and community for over 60 years. Thanks to the incredible hard work, planning and fundraising efforts across our school, the full refurbishment of our swimming pool and changing rooms are almost complete. Our tamariki are already loving being back in the water and now it is time for us to gather, admire our refurbishment and celebrate together as one whaanau.
What to Expect!
Come along for a fun and exciting afternoon with your family.
Free Swim for Tamariki: Pack your child’s swimming gear and towels! Our tamariki can splash around and enjoy the freshly plastered, sanded and repainted pool.
Community Sausage Sizzle: Enjoy a sausage sizzle with family and friends
Official Acknowledgements: Words of appreciation from the Principal and Board
Family Connection: A wonderful gathering to connect and admire the changes of our pool
Thank you, Ngaa mihi and Fa’afetai lava!
Thank you again to a collective effort and generosity from our community. We extend our appreciation to everyone who helped bring this vision to life.
Aktive & Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board, PTA Fundraising Committee, School Fun Run Fundraiser, Matua Bo and our Swimming Sub-Committee (Nicola O, Danielle S, Ellie T, Jasmine H, Mark S, Candace N and Matua Bo)

Diwali Day at MBS
‘Festival of Lights’
Thursday 12th November
Cultural and Traditional Wear
|
What is Diwali?
- Diwali is a Hindu festival which lasts for 5 days.
- It is also celebrated by Sikhs.
- Diwali means “row of lighted lamps” and is often called the Festival of Lights.
- The festival celebrates good over evil; light over darkness.
- The Goddess of Wealth (Lakshmi) is honoured during Diwali which is also considered to be the Hindu New Year.
- Because there are many regions in India, Diwali is celebrated in many different ways (and also all over the World.)
We are providing an opportunity for our students to dress in Diwali attire or cultural traditional wear. Thank you for your support.

Our Why?
The purpose of School Athletics under the Health and Physical Education (HPE) learning areas of The New Zealand Curriculum is designed for students to take part in movement and physical activities that serves as a vehicle for holistic development and physical literacy.
Students are learning the following skills:
Developing Fundamental Movement Skills – Building basic running, jumping, throwing, skipping, balancing and agile movement patterns
Fostering Positive Attitudes towards Physical Activity – Encouraging enjoyment, participation, confidence and a lifelong love of movement rather than pressure
Supporting Hauora (Holistic Well-being) – Promoting physical health alongside mental, emotional and social well-being through active play and inclusion
Building Relationships and Sportsmanship – Learning how to share space, take turns, encourage peers, cooperate and show resilience or fair play in a supportive environment
Exploring Movement Concepts – Understanding how the body moves, how to manage space and equipment and how to adapt to simple rules or challenges

It’s great to see our tamariki having the opportunity during the break times to play in the ‘Hungerball’ Inflatable Multi-Goal Arena. It is a highly engaging and fast paced activity for our children. Matua Haki has been working alongside our Year 5 and 6 student leaders/rangatira to help with the set up and support the sessions. Our teachers have also been reinforcing the rules as part of providing both a fun and safe experience.

Important Reminder!
School Gates are locked at 3.30 pm
|
Kia Ora Parents/Caregivers,
A friendly reminder that our school gates are locked at 3.30 pm by our caretaker Matua Bo. It is important that we look after our school and keep it safe. We also want to protect and look after our school property as ‘Kaitiaki/Guardians’ by minimising rubbish between 3 – 3.30 pm. If your child is waiting to be picked up after school they will need to wait at the school office. We hope you can help us to continue to look after our beautiful school. Ngaa mihi
