Nau mai, Haere mai, Afio mai

We are half-way through the term and our students have had the opportunity to establish class routines, expectations and getting to know their peers and teacher/kaiako.

It is great to see our senior students taking part in the MOSA Boys and Girls Cricket teams at the start of the term. Both teams did well and we are very proud of their effort.  Our new Sports Co-ordinator is Matua Peter . If you have any questions with regards to your childl taking part in sports please speak to Matua Peter.  Thank you to Matua Paul and our parents for always supporting our tamariki.

The students have been involved in a range of visual art experiences in preparation for the School Art Exhibition at the end of this term. We look forward to seeing their final art pieces displayed for parents and whaanau to view in Week 9. Our Pou Tuuhono Inquiry Theme ‘Dare Dream’ for 2026 will be reflected throughout the year with a focus on different Curriculum Areas each term and for Term 1 it is Visual Arts.

We had a great turn out for the Parent Information evening and Whaanau Picnic held in the first 3 weeks. Our MBS Community Engagement Hui/Fono for all Maaori and Pacific Island parents and whaanau is an opportunity to engage and gather parent voice.  Te Hiaroa and the Samoan Unit also had meetings with their parents to discuss what has been working well and other updates. We have our last MBS Community Hui on Wednesday 11th March at 5.30 pm which is for all other ethnicity groups.

On Friday morning we held a whole school assembly to have karakia for one of our junior students in Piiwaiwaka who was involved in a serious incident after school. We also discussed the importance of keeping safe when walking to and from school. We encourage all parents to always follow the road safety guidelines to keep all tamariki safe.

The last day of Term 1 will be Wednesday 1st April and we will finish at 3 pm. The school will be closed on Thursday 2nd April for Teacher Only Day where staff will be involved in Professional development for the New Zealand Mathematics Curriculum.

Congratulations to Matua Tepe’a, Mr G Gharpreet and Whaea Princess who have completed their first two years of teaching as a beginner teacher and are now fully registered teachers. We would like to acknowledge their mentors and tutors past and present.  Ka mau te wehi!

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership with our staff.

Ngaa mihi nui, Fa’afetai tele lava, Fakaaue lahi

According to our attendance data on HERO the Attendance Rate Summary at MBS highlights 7.16% of absences are justified, 2.23% are unjustified and 90.61% of our students are attending school regularly over the last 5 weeks for Term 1. Our Year 1 students have the highest attendance rate with our Years 3, 4 and 5 students below 90%. We will be sharing our Everyday Matters Report at the end of the Term.

MBS Board Updates

Tēnā tātou katoa,

The Maangere Bridge School Board has had a productive start to the term, having already held our first meeting of the year with another scheduled for later this month.

Our team is delighted to announce that the Maangere Bridge School Strategic Plan (2026–2028) is now available. This document sets our direction for the next few years, and you can read it in full at mangerebridgeschool.school.nz (alongside our 2026 Annual Implementation Plan).

The plan is built on three key pillars: Whaanau Partnership, Quality Teaching, and Learner Capability. These priorities are designed to transform our school by fostering a strong community, supporting high-performing teachers, and ensuring our aakonga thrive. We believe these goals are not only achievable but can be exceeded if we, as parents and caregivers, continue to play an active role in supporting our school staff and partnering in our children’s learning.

We have also recently reviewed our Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) policies and practices. We have identified ways to further strengthen this area to ensure the absolute safety of our children during all off-site learning.

Finally, it is wonderful to see the Samoan unit take flight with such positive feedback already. We are also excited to see the momentum building for our school pool fundraising—thank you to everyone involved in these efforts, including our school PTA.

Ngaa mihi nui,

Justis Kamu, Presiding Member

Room 8 has had a wonderful start to the year as students have been getting to know one another and building positive relationships within the class. We have spent time learning about each other, sharing about our families and cultures, and developing a strong sense of belonging. A big focus has been on establishing our class routines so everyone knows how we learn and work together each day. Students have also been learning about our MBS Ways and what these values look like in our classroom. It has been great to see students beginning to show manaakitanga, kotahitanga, rangatiratanga, and kaitiakitanga as we create a positive and supportive learning environment together.

Ngaa Mihi,  Miss Lingam

Ruma Tekau maa Rima – Room 15

Room 15 is already thriving in Week 5! We have been focusing on whakawhanaungatanga — building strong relationships and growing together as a classroom whānau. Alongside this, we are strengthening our literacy skills and becoming confident, independent writers, with a special focus on recount writing as we prepare for our upcoming writing assessment. Reading has been a highlight for us. We love reading for personal enjoyment — outside on the playground, under the trees, and together as a class. Whaea Princess enjoys reading to us, and we are building our confidence by taking on shared reading and reading chapters aloud to Room 15.

Our Kea Values Day was another special moment this term. Through fun and sometimes competitive activities, we learned the importance of respect, teamwork, and collaboration. It truly brought us closer together. Overall, it has been a fun and insightful start to the term, filled with love, kindness, respect, and amazing growth.

That’s Room 15 signing out for Week 5

Ruma Tekau maa Ono – Room 16

Teenaa koutou ngaa whaanau,

Room 16 has especially been enjoying connecting their Science and Mathematical knowledge to our Pou Tuhono visual arts focus – creating collages, building 3-D shapes with playdough, and arranging 2-D shapes to create artworks. Stop by at drop off or pick up to check out our ever-expanding gallery in The Nook.
