Welcome Back to Term 2!
We would like to acknowledge all of our new students and whaanau who have started at MBS this term. A warm welcome to Peter Penese who has been appointed as the new teacher in Room 13 and will start in Week 4. We look forward to a new term and engaging through our Parent Partnership Meetings/Interviews held in the last week of this term.
Our Student Inquiry for Term Two is ‘about ‘The Scientist in me’ with a fous on Science and Technology Curriculum areas. Our students will showcase at the end of the term their learning from a range of experiences, investigations and gathering of information.
Farewell Whaea Maxx
Fakalofa lahi atu! We sadly farewell Whaea Maxx who has resigned and will be taking on a new position as the Deputy Principal at Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate Middle School in Otara. We are very proud of her achievement but will be sad to see her go. Whaea Maxx has been at MBS for 9 years and is currently the Piiwaiwaka Team leader for Years 1 – 3 in the mainstream and the Room 8 classroom Teacher. She has also taken on other roles and responsibilities over the years that include being the Pasifika Leader and the Staff Rep on the School Board. Whaea Maxx has worked closely alongside our Pasifika Community leading and supporting the Celebration of Pacific Language Weeks each year and also her involvment in our Community Pasifika Fono where she has continued to network with other families, especially being proud of her Niuean and Samoan heritage. Whaea Maxx’s last day will be at the end of Week 6 on Friday 6th June which is Samoan Language Week. We would like to thank Whaea Maxx for her hard work, commitment and service to the school and her students as a teacher/kaiako, leader and staff member. On behalf of the school board, staff and especially her Piiwaiwaka team and students, we would like to wish Whaea Maxx all the very best with her new school. We will be having a farewell assembly on Friday 6th June for Whaea Maxx.

Whaea Lyrentia’s last day at MBS will be on Friday 16th May. There will be a farewell assembly for Whaea Lyrentia on Thursday 15th May at 9.30 – 10.30 am hosted by the Kea Team. We invite you to attend Whaea Lyrentia’s special farewell assembly. We would like to thank Whaea Lyrentia for all of her commitment, hard work, leadership, Organisation of Year 6 Graduation, International Language week and for being an amazing teacher during her time at MBS. Te Hiaroa whaanau will be meeting once a term to keep our parents and caregivers updated on the various things happening here at kura. NZ Sign Language Week
5 – 11th May
|
|
We look forward to acknowledging and celebrating NZ Sign Language week from 5 – 11 May. Our students will have an opportunity to learn throughout the week. Every May, Deaf Aotearoa takes centre stage to organise New Zealand Sign Language Week, a vibrant celebration of one of the country’s official languages, alongside te reo Māori. Have a go! Te Wiki o te Reo Turi! Kia kaha!

Teacher Only Day
Friday 30th May – School will be closed for instruction!
|
Our next Teacher only day will be held on Friday 30th May. The Ministry of Education set a number of Teacher Only days for schools to support staff with planning and professional development. The school will be closed for insturction on this day. We will send out another friendly reminder closer to the time and encourage you to prepare for your children who will not be coming to school.

Parent Partnership Meetings
We will have our Parent Partnership Meetings (Parent Interviews) held on Wednesday 25th June and Thursday 26th June. School will finish early on Wednesday at 1 pm. More information will be sent out for you to book a time online for a 15 minute meeting with your child’s classroom teacher.
The Parent Partnership Meetings will provide parents and whaanau an opportunity to ask paatai/ questions and celebrate your child’s progress and shifts in the core curriculum areas Reading, Writing and Mathematics (Paanui, tuhituhi, and Paangarau).
Student’s Learning Goals
The purpose of the Parent Partnership Meeting is to share your child’s learning goals for this year and their progress so far according to the milestones and learning expectations.
Mid-Year Reporting to Parents
Our reporting will look different this year and we will provide guidance on how you can view your child’s learning on HERO which is our new SMS system.
Student Learning Inquiry
Our students learning inquiry will also be shared in the last week of school and there will be an opportunity for you to view your child’s learning journey.

Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa, Samoan language week is in Week 6 and we will begin with an operning ceremony as a whole school assembly held on Tuesday 3rd June at 9 am after our Poowhiri. Our students will take participate in other activities learning about the Samoa culture and language. We will then finish with a whole school assembly on Thursday 5th June 1.30 pm where our students will be performing a range of items. We look forward to celebrating Samoan Language Week for 2025. IMPORTANT NOTICE!
Year 6 Parent Camp Meeting on Monday 5th May at 6 pm
|
We would like to invite all Year 6 Parents to attend a meeting held on Monday 5th May at 6 pm. The purpose of this meeting is to provide all parents information about the Year 6 Camp held in Term 4 Week 2. A letter will be emailed to all year 6 Parents. This will include all the information required and we will continue to keep you updated. If you are interested in being a parent helper you will need to email Bernicem@mangerebridge.school.nz as soon as possible so that the school can complete the vetting forms. We will inform you of how many parents are required as we will also have staff supervising at the camp. Parent Helpers will not need to pay for the camp. There will be an opportunity for parents to visit the camp site and we will confirm this date.
Details of the Year 6 Camp:
Where: Ngarauwahia – Camp Waipa CYC (Christian Youth Camp)
When: The Camp will be held on Monday 13th – Wednesday 15th October
(3 days and 2 nights)
Total Cost $250 per student
The school will be applying for grants to support towards funding part of the school camp costs such as the specialist instructors and transportation. The cost of the camp includes payment towards accommodation, food and the Camp activities. The activities range from Archery, Raft building, Hydro slide, Flying Fox, Kayaking, Paddle boats, Mini Golf, Swimming Pool, Craft Climbing, Climbing Wall, Bushwalk and mudslide. All water activities will require specific adult supervision for health and safety.
